Step-by-Step Mechanical Troubleshooting Checklist
Issue 1: Air Bubbles Under the Label (Transparent or Paper Labels)
- Speed Mismatch: If the label extends faster than the container is rolling, the label buckles and traps an air pocket. If the label extends slower, it stretches and skips.
- Fix: In the HLT touch-screen panel, navigate to Parameter Settings > Traction Frequency / Pulse and match the linear speed of the peel plate to the conveyor.
- Peel Angle & Initial Tack: The label must touch the bottle within 2–4mm of leaving the peel-plate knife edge. If the label leader dangles too long before contact, air gets swept underneath.
- Fix: Adjust the labeling head angle so the peel blade tip is positioned 2–3mm away from the container contact point.
- Wiping Pressure: For glass jars and rigid plastic containers, replace worn sponge rollers with high-rebound silicone or spring-loaded wiper brushes.
Issue 2: Wrinkles and Creases (Long Wraps & Curved/Tapered Bottles)
- Peel Plate Non-Parallelism: If the top of the peel plate is closer to the bottle than the bottom, the label contacts unevenly, forming diagonal creases.
- Fix: Loosen the universal 6-axis adjustment block and use a spirit level or caliper to ensure the knife edge is 100% parallel to the container vertical axis.
- Container Taper / Draft Angle: Many injection-molded jars have a 1°–3° draft angle. A rectangular label applied to a conical surface naturally fans out into wrinkles.
- Fix: Tilt the labeling head by the exact draft angle using the built-in angle bracket on HLT T211/T712, and order fan-shaped die-cut labels.
Issue 3: Release Liner (Glassine Paper) Snapping Mid-Production
- Die-Cutting Blade Strike: If the label converter set the rotary die cutting pressure too deep, the blade scores the silicone release liner, creating hairline micro-tears that snap under tension.
- Diagnostic: Peel off an unused label and hold the backing paper up to a bright light. If cut lines are visible on the paper, reject the label batch.
- Brake Arm Tension: Over-tightening the feed reel brake nut creates excessive drag.
- Fix: Loosen the brake tension spring so the unwind reel spins freely without freewheeling slack.
